PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Welcome Back! We hope everyone had a nice summer and are ready for a new season of Forest Hill Garden Club events! This year Claudia Belshaw and Ann Rieger Matthews will be serving the club as co-presidents. We are looking forward to an exciting year as we work to bring you some new programs as well as continuing some of your past favorite offerings. We will have our regular meetings, on the third Monday of the month at 1:00pm, through May. We are also planning to host events that are after 5:00pm and on weekends to better reach those of us who work and have families in our neighborhood.

Our dues have stayed the same this year at $75.00 per person. Our membership is open to anyone, of any age, who is a member of the Forest Hill Association or renting in the neighborhood. We also will be hosting parties generally in the evenings (e.g., the holiday party in December). There is an additional cover charge for some of these events to cover the costs of catering, music, and decorations. General Meetings are open to non-members as guests for $10.00, and to all members free as part of your membership benefits.

Our first meeting to open a new season of the Garden Club is on September 16, at 1:00 PM. It will be a wonderful chicken salad luncheon prepared by Kathleen Fong. Please RSVP with Kathleen by phone or text to (415) 465-2601 or email her at Kathleen@DesBld.com by September 11. An accurate headcount is necessary for food planning. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Attached is an application for your membership renewal. Please mail your dues to Yen Bachmeier or bring a check to the luncheon on September 16.

We will see you in September!

Thanks,
Claudia Belshaw and Ann Rieger-Matthews

NOTES:

Upcoming Event - Monday, October 21st, 2024.

We are excited to bring back one of our favorite programs: Art-Talk from the Fine Art Museum of San Francisco. The topic will be “The Legion of Honor Turns 100: Its Origins, Architecture and Inaugural Art”, presented by docent Virginia Ernster.

This year, 2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Legion of Honor, home of one of the world’s outstanding collections of Rodin sculpture and European art. This Art Talk tells the fascinating story of how the museum was modeled after the Legion of Honor in Paris and would come to be built on the hill with a breath taking view of the San Francisco Bay. Mark your calendar!
