BULLETIN

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

On October 21, 2024, we celebrated the 100th birthday of the California Palace Legion of Honor with Art Talk, given by museum docent Virginia Ernster. Virginia discussed Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, her life, influence in San Francisco, and the creation of the California Palace Legion of Honor. A celebratory cake in the honor of the museum, was served with coffee and tea after the meeting. 33 people attended the presentation.

Thank you to Yen Bachmeier who arranged for the presentation, and Saundra McCormick for hosting the event. Thank you also to Ingeborg McGlynn and Julia Stroud for setting up the chairs and getting the room ready. Thank you to Nancy Hagosian and Anna Bolechowski for setting the tables with linens and pretty arrangements. The event was interesting, informative, and followed by a nice cake that Saundra had beautifully decorated for the event.

The bookfair will be on Monday, November 11, at 1:00. Please note the date has been moved up to Veterans’ Day because of the availability of the book shop. Teresa Callan will bring Bookshop West Portal to the Clubhouse. Anna Bullard, the bookshop owner, will walk us through this year’s new books to give us a glimpse of the content. Children’s books are included. All attendees get 20% off on all books purchased and enjoy a bountiful refreshment table after the program. Bring your friends.

November 11, is also our community service event, hosted by Eva Monroe. Money contributions for Thanksgiving are collected to help stock the SF-Marin Food Bank. Our donations bring food to the tables for Bay Area families in need. Thanks to a matching offer from the Golden Family Fund, that means every $1 donated through November 30, will now provide food for 4 nourishing meals! Eva Monroe will lead this noble effort. Checks payable to the SF-Marin Food Bank can be delivered to Eva at the event or to be mailed/dropped off at 330 Castenada Avenue.

Happy Thanksgiving month and see you all there.

Claudia Belshaw and Ann Rieger-Matthews
