Hartmut Rohde Viola
Hartmut Rohde started violin and viola lessons at the age of nine in the German city of Celle.
He went on to study with Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartet) in Vienna and Hannover, where he became Beyerle’s assistant at the University of Music and Theater.
Mr. Rohde has participated in many master classes and festivals and studied with such artists as Gerard Causse, Kim Kashkashian, Walter Levin and Pinkas Zukerman. He is one of the most sought after violists in Europe.
Presently Professor of Viola at Berlin´s renowned University of Arts, he is a founding member of the Kandinsky-Streichtrio as well as the Mozart Piano Quartet. With both ensembles and as a soloist, he is touring the USA, Australia, Europe and Korea. Among others, he has performed at the Salzburg Festival, Berlin Festival, Pablo Casals Festival, Ravinia Festival, and the Rheingau-Festival.
Hartmut Rohde is also guest professor at the Royal Academy of London. He can be heard in collaboration with such musicians as Bruno Canino, Heinrich Schiff, David Geringas, Thomas Brandis, Boris Pergamenschikow, Pascal Devoyon, Michel Lethiec, Lars Vogt or the Leipziger Streichquartett and a host of other international chamber musicians and soloists. His performances may be heard on all the major radio stations in Germany and on the recording labels of Decca, Arte Nova and Darbinghaus & Grimm.
His list of international prizes includes the First Prize of the German Music Competition, the International Academy of the Mozarteum, Salzburg, and the Best Interpretation of Contemporary Music at the International Viola competition in Naumburg, New York.
