KATHY CANFIELD SHEPARD, horn



Kathy Canfield Shepard has enjoyed a successful French horn career, first in Michigan having performed with the Detroit Symphony, Michigan Opera Theater, and Flint and Saginaw Symphonies.

A freelancer in New York City for over twenty years, she performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New Haven Symphony, and with such artists as Leonard Bernstein, Frank Sinatra, Joni Mitchell, Renée Fleming and Lenny Kravitz.

She has credits in over twenty Broadway shows (including eight years in the orchestra for the original Broadway production of Les Misérables) and can be heard on recordings, film scores, radio and TV. Over the past eight years in the Bay Area she has performed with the Oakland Symphony, Berkeley Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony and in the orchestras for several choral groups.

Also a graphic designer and artist, Shepard in 2001 created Canfield Design Studios, a web and graphic design firm specializing in the arts, nonprofit and small business communities. She holds a certificate in interactive multimedia design from the Pratt Institute, a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, as well as certificates in surface pattern design and mechanical drafting.
