Forest Hill Garden Club
JANUARY
2 0 0 9 NEWSLETTER PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: We had a very busy Garden Club in December. Our members were generous with their time, food preparations, and genuine festive spirit. Wreath Making Day was a cheery beginning to the holidays, thanks to Ann Reiger-Matthews. More than twenty Garden Club Members showed up to chat, make wreaths, and collect materials for our Black-tie formal. Sunday Decorating went quickly and smoothly as Dottie and Dan McHugh, John and Katie Balestreri, Anna Bolechowski, Anna Cristoforo, Kathy Farrell, Donna and Jim Earhart, Nancy Hagosian, Darlene Hartman, Dan Kelly, Sally and Philip Kipper, Ruth Lycette, Julie Lusting, Eva Monroe, and Helen Scholten gave their collective energy to make sure our clubhouse would be festive. Thanks to Old Goat Jim Earhart for cooking up a hearty beef stew! Monday’s Teddy Bear Picnic Formal was a great event. Many thanks to Chairperson Dottie McHugh assisted by Helen Scholten, and Louise Bacigalupi for putting together an evening that charmed us all! Thanks to Will Connolly and Walt Farrell for keeping our spirits light with holiday singing! Our decorations from Monday were put to good use two days later when the neighborhood children came to meet Santa for the annual Holiday Children’s Party. The Garden Club ended up the December season by co-sponsoring a Holiday Reception with the Forest Hill Association and Musical Days. Our special guest was our neighbor, acclaimed pianist Mari Kodama. We were all impressed with the enthusiasm and good will for Mari and her daughter Karin Kei Nagano as they performed for us at this congenial, inviting neighborhood gathering. Many thanks go to Katie Balestreri, Yen Bachmeier, and Sally Kipper for chairing this event. Our January meeting will be an afternoon of leisure and fun; a fitting start to a great 2009 Year!
