PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE:

Our Day of Leisure began with a lunch prepared by your President, with the help of Anna Bolechowski. Many thanks, also, to Sima Talai, Eva Monroe, Darlene Hartman, and Katie Balestreri for their help serving. Thanks, also to Anna Cristoforo, Helen Scholten for decorating the Clubhouse in a manner appropriate to an afternoon spent playing cards, Scrabble, Dominoes, and Monopoly.

Please note that while it is ungracious not to thank someone for his or her efforts, it is never too late to do so! So thank you, David and Clorinda Aldrich for your help decorating for our holiday party in December. Thanks, also to Sally Kipper for being a most effective Treasurer and guardian of our assets, and to Web Master Yen Bachmeier, who somehow manages to put up with me for always missing deadlines.

NOTES

Magnolia Walk 2/25/09 - San Francisco Botanical Garden
On Wednesday, February 25, 2009, our friend and neighbor, Dr. Joseph Barbaccia will lead a tour of the magnificent Magnolia collection in the San Francisco Botanical Garden. Dr. Barbaccia, former Board Chair for the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society, has served as a docent at the Botanical garden for many years and continues to delight young and old visitors alike with his encyclopedic knowledge of the hundreds of species and genus of plants thriving in the Botanical Garden, the garden jewel of Golden Gate Park. The towering magnolias are coming into full bloom, along with all the beautiful under plantings beneath their fragrant boughs - rhododendrons , azaleas and hellebores. Just beyond the Magnolia collection is the newly renovated Ancient Plant Garden, which we can also explore in this 200th Anniversary year of Charles Darwin's birth. To cap off our tour we will visit the newest exhibition of botanical water colors by the Masterclass artists of the SF Botanical Garden, in the Helen Crocker Russell Library. Don't miss this delightful garden expedition!

Meet at the bookstore, inside the garden gates (9th and Lincoln) @ 11AM.
Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a bag lunch! RSVP to Eva Monroe @ 415-753-0705 or EvaMonroe@aol.com
